HARRISBURG – Rep. Mark Keller (R-Perry/Cumberland) announced today that Pennsylvania trout stocking schedules are now available in preparation for opening day of trout season in April. Free copies can be obtained at Keller’s district offices in New Bloomfield and Shippensburg, and his Capitol office in Harrisburg.

More than 720 streams and 120 lakes will be stocked as a part of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission’s (PFBC) 2017 adult trout stocking program. Stocking occurs year-round, though most anglers typically view March as the official start of stocking season.

The PFBC will stock nearly 3.15 million adult trout in Pennsylvanian waterways that are open to the public for fishing. That number includes approximately 2 million rainbow trout; 640,000 brown trout; and 500,000 brook trout. The average size of the trout produced for stocking is 11 inches in length.

The statewide opening day for trout season is Saturday, April 15, but a regional opening day in 18 southcentral and southeastern counties is set for Saturday, April 1, including Perry and Cumberland counties.

Keller’s New Bloomfield office is located at 18 West Main St. His Shippensburg office is located at 81 Walnut Bottom Road. Both offices are open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
