Keller Recognizes Achievement of Loysville Resident
3/31/2009
During House session on March 30, Rep. Mark Keller (R-Perry/Franklin) presented a House citation to Angela “Angie” N. Loy, of Loysville, for being named the 2008 USA Women’s Field Hockey Player of the Year.

“It was an honor to present Angie this citation in recognition of her athletic achievements over the past several years,” Keller said. “The West Perry community is proud to have one of their own rise in the national spotlight and show America what Perry County has to offer.”

A 2000 graduate of West Perry High School, Angie was an All-State selection and the Female Athlete of the Year. During her high school career, she played basketball for four years and was named to the Big 15 Selection. In addition, she participated on the track team for three years and the field hockey team, where she recorded a career 65 goals and 27 assists, and obtained the 100 point club with 158 points.

Loy graduated from Old Dominion University in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education. During her college career, her athletic accomplishments continued to add up. She was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Year in 2000, the CAA Player of the Year in 2003, and the Division One All-American in 2002 and 2003. Additionally, she served as a member of the National Field Hockey Coaches’ Association All-Academic Team in 2001.

In December 2003, Angie became a member of the USA Women’s Field Hockey team and made her first career international player appearance in a game against Ireland. She went on to compete in Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Barbados, New Zealand, Australia, Russia, Japan, China, Spain, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands. Her international career includes 114 games and 32 goals, and she was named high scorer for the USA team in the Olympics with four goals.

During the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, Angie assisted the Pool B Team in placing fourth in its division.

“This young lady has an accomplished athletic career, and she deserves the recognition and praise for her exceptional abilities,” Keller said. “On behalf of the residents of the 86th Legislative District, I was pleased to present a citation that highlights her hard work and dedication.”
